I am a certified Systemic Family Psychotherapist with a background in Clinical Psychology and Narrative Therapy. I am a full member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and of the Association of Family Therapy (AFT). I speak both English and Portuguese fluently.

As a systemic and family psychotherapist I have a special interest in couple and family therapy as well as working with people on an individual basis. People seeking my help are often struggling with a range of issues such as family or couple difficulties, parenting or family transitions, eating problems, anxiety, depression, bereavement, eating difficulties, self-harm, or who have been feeling that life isn't working out quite the way they wished it would.

I originally trained as a clinical psychologist before specializing in systemic family psychotherapy. I have been working with children, teenagers, families and adults  for over 15 years in both statutory and voluntary settings. Alongside my private practice, I continue to work for the NHS as a systemic and family psychotherapist.  This role includes meeting with individuals and families for therapy, parental counseling and support, providing consultation and supervision to different professionals. I am also an experienced lecturer and trainer on family therapy as well as mental health, and have an interest in systemic research and practice.

I aim to offer a compassionate, open and collaborative approach and give the space people often need to express and explore difficult thoughts and emotions, to understand their experiences and reach their goals. My approach also explores strengths and resources in order to support people in making useful changes in their relationships and in their lives.

Starting therapy can be a big decison, it can be confusing to understand the different types of therapy available and to work out which one might be right for you.  Whilst there is a lot of research about what specific interventions tend to be more helpful for certain types of difficulties, a significant body of research also points out that the most significant factor in whether people find therapy useful is the relationship that they can forge with their therapist.

For the reason above, before we agree on any piece of work I like to arrange an initial consultation so that you can ask any questions about me and the ways in which I can work in order to decide if I am the right therapist for you.  If you would like to arrange this you can email me, or get in touch.
