INDIVIDUAL, COUPLE AND FAMILY THERAPY
Tania Pombeiro - Systemic and Family Psychotherapist |UKCP
Individual sessions can be offered to children, adolescents, and adults. Younger children and adolescents may benefit from a combination of individual and family sessions. When relevant, this can be discussed and agreed upon with each person or family.

I have experience working with individuals who have a variety of difficulties, such as anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, eating disorders, self-harm, issues around identity, bereavement and loss, trauma, trust issues, as well as those struggling with their relationships or generally feeling stressed or frustrated with the way life is going for them.

It may be that in addition to the systemic method, another approach such as EMDR, Narrative Therapy, or Emotion-Focused Therapy may be fitting for you. We will talk through your goals and how we will work together so that you can make informed decisions about our work together. The initial consultation is a good starting place for these conversations.

Individual sessions are 60 minutes long. The frequency of the sessions will be agreed upon together, usually, sessions are weekly or fortnightly at the beginning of therapy.

I am able to work with people for both short and long periods of time. This can be in person, from my office, or online via Zoom or Teams.

Family Therapy enables family members to express and explore difficult thoughts and feelings safely so that people can understand each other's experiences and views, and find ways of better caring for and supporting each other.

Families come to therapy for different reasons. Most often the family, or one of its members, is grappling with:
-
Stress or Anxiety
-
Effects of bullying or discrimination
-
Depression
-
Difficulties in interpersonal relationships with friends or family
-
Managing illness in the family
-
Separation or Divorce
-
Bereavement and loss
-
Eating disorders
-
Issues relating to abuse or trauma in the past or in the present
-
Adjustment difficulties
-
Trust issues
-
Family life transitions

I have additional training family-based models that have been found to be effective for the treatment of specific difficulties, for example, Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT, for Depression in Adolescents), or Family Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa (FT-AN). Our initial sessions may be spent developing an understanding of the difficulties you are facing, the changes you want to see happening, and what approach we might use to work towards them.

Sessions are generally held every 2-3 weeks, and last 60 minutes.

Couple therapy can help couples of whichever marital status or sexual orientation resolve difficulties and improve communication.
Couples can work through communication struggles, infidelity or betrayal trauma, separation or divorce, life cycle transitions, physical or mental health struggles, or just have a neutral place to safely discuss any issues pertinent to them.

To achieve the best outcomes for each couple, I draw upon Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and the Exeter Model (Couple Therapy for Depression), in addition to the systemic and narrative ways of working.

Sessions are generally held every 2-3 weeks, and last 60 minutes.
Supervision
I have supervised professionals working in the third sector as well as professionals working in mental health and social care, using a systemic lens.
I am often approached to provide supervision to professionals working systemically, or to those interested in working systemically, or professionals working with or wishing to help people struggling with their relationship with weight and eating.

If you would like to discuss regular or one-off supervision please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
Training
I am a qualified trainer and have facilitated workshops in a range of subjects in the areas of therapy and mental health.
I have supervised and taught professionals on a Foundation Course in Family Therapy in Norfolk, run workshops and support groups for carers/ parents.
